T1 Dominates LCK Again in Spring 2023

The South Korean League of Legends team T1 continues to come out on top this spring season of League of Legends Champions Korea (LCK). With two players performing in the top five of the Player of the Game standings, T1 maintains their winning average with a 15-1 record to finish the regular season before the playoffs. They complete the season with a 94 percent average in series and a 79 percent average in overall games.

T1 dominates in 2023, one year after the Spring 2022 split in which they defeated all their opponents, maintaining a perfect 18-0 record. They were the first team to achieve this feat in the history of the league. In smashing this record, they also surpassed the record for the longest win streak, which was 14 matches at the time. T1 went on to win their 10th title.

While T1 was not able to repeat its win streak this Spring, the team suffered only one loss. The last time T1 had a near-perfect record was in the Summer 2015 season when they finished 17-1.

League and Playoff Format

The Spring 2023 season of LCK contains 10 teams for competition in a double round-robin style. Each match determines the winner using a best-of-three format. The six top-performing teams advance to the playoffs with the top two teams receiving a first-round bye.

All teams except for the top two seeds compete in the first round of the tournament. Winners advance to the next round while the losers are eliminated. Starting in the second round, the tournament becomes a double-elimination bracket. Additionally, unlike regular season play, each match of the playoffs is best of five, ramping up the intensity and providing more opportunities for the players.

The top two teams of the playoffs receive a bid to the 2023 Mid-Season Invitational.

T1 History

T1 is consistently a top performer in LCK. It is a part of T1 Entertainment & Sports—an eSports enterprise with teams competing in other games such as Dota 2, Valorant, and Overwatch Contenders.

The eSports venture hopes to spread its competitive culture into new games. The LCK team is one of its most notable teams to date.

Formerly known as SK Telecom T1, the organization announced it would be transitioning to the name T1 in February 2019, which was mid-season. The team continued to be called SKT until the season ended.

As an organization that frequently smashes records, T1 is a team to keep an eye on. Between the Spring 2022 and Summer 2022 LCK seasons, they maintained a winning streak of 24 games before losing to Kwangdong Freeks. Additionally, they preserved a 26-game win streak between the Spring 2022 and MSI 2022 before losing in the Rumble Stage.

Current Roster

T1’s roster for the Spring 2023 season includes Zeus, Oner, Faker, Gumayusi, and Keria with coaches Bengi and Tom. Keria comes out on top of the standings for Player of the Game with 1100. Following him with 1000 is Oner in second place.

What to Expect in the Playoffs

Tournament-style match play for LCK Spring 2023 begins March 22. Due to their regular season outcome, T1 received first-seed status, clinching the first-round bye. Their first playoff game begins in the second round.

As the regular season wraps up, the first-round matchups are to be determined. However, we can expect the third seed to compete against the fifth or sixth seed. Meanwhile, the fourth seed is set to compete against the fifth or sixth seed.

T1 faces the winner of the matchup between the third seed and the fifth/sixth seed. You can stream the playoffs, but the links are still to be determined. Either way, we are awaiting an epic couple of weeks of bracket play and an unsurprisingly exceptional performance from T1.
