DAMWON Gaming: Who Are They?
Damwon Gaming is a professional e-Sport organization based in South Korea. Its LoL team contends in the LCK, which is considered the South Korean top-level league for the online game. They won their first local title on September 5, 2020, after defeating SRX in the summer finals.
Damwon also grabs the 2020 World Championship final after defeating the team from China last October 31, 2020.
Damwon Gaming was created on May 28, 2017, after Damwon, a computer manufacturer, obtained the Challengers Korea team Mirage Gaming. The initial roster of the team consists of jungler Crush, top-laner Parang, bot-laner Beryl, mid-laner Try, and support Hoit. In spite of a good start as well as the addition of mid-laner CooN midway in the summer split, the team ranked 5th in the regular session. The team was revamped, with Alive, Nuguri, and newcomer Showmaker replacing Bery, Try, and Parang. The new team didn’t see many victories at the LoL KeSPA Cup 2017, bot-laner Veritas and jungler Patch were brought in for the spring split 2018.
In spite of the poor performance in the League of Legend KeSPA Cup 2019, the roster was kept in its totally going into the spring split 2020. DAMWON Gaming finished 5th in the regular season and then placed 4th in playoffs after beaten by the DRX once more in a very close series. On the other hand, DAMWON was one of the 3 LCK teams that joined and partook in the 2020 Mid Season Cup. Sad to say, the team once again did make it out of the group stage. In fact, they fall into 5th to 6th place.
Without making any changes in the roster once more, at last, the team placed 1st in the regular summer season with just series losses. This qualifies the team to enter the summer finals automatically. Luckily, the team has beaten DRX three times in the best of three playoffs in the finals and won the very first title in LCK on September 5, 2020.
On October 31, 2020, the most awaited event in their lives, the roster was able to defeat the super-powerful team in China, the Suning, in the 2020 World Championship finals to become the world champions. The team is looking forward to a more champions as they promise their best to win the 2021 championship.
